Conditions Related to Coagulation are the Leading Cause of Death in the US
Conditions related to undesired blood clot formation (stroke, heart attack, thromboembolism, etc.) are the leading cause of death and morbidity in the developed world.
The numbers are staggering. Cases in the United States are estimated to be as high as 900,000 per year for thromboembolism, 865,000 per year for heart attack, and 700,000 per year for stroke.
Anticoagulation therapies normally used to treat conditions are risky and must be carefully monitored.
